California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) was founded in 1901. It is a 6,000 acre campus, located in San Luis Obispo, California. It is a nationally ranked, comprehensive public university that emphasizes a “learn by doing” educational experience for its more than 19,000 students.

In recent years the Orfalea College of Business has had students in its graduate programs from the People’s Republic of China, Italy, Denmark, Iran, Turkey, Korea, Moldova, Pakistan, Mexico, Russia, Ireland, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand.

The brand value of a Cal Poly degree is high. Cal Poly is considered a prestigious and difficult school to gain admission into. A number of students and/or their parents also seek admission to Cal Poly because it is a safe and welcoming environment where students are expected to focus on their studies and are held to high standards. For example, Cal Poly is located roughly a three hour drive from the major metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Francisco. This means when students wish get away from campus for a few days and experience the things a major metropolitan area can offer, these cities are close enough for them to do so, yet they can return to Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo and continue to focus on their education.

The College is located in a beautiful, modern building that was opened in 1992. The College is named after Paul Orfalea, the founder of Kinkos Copies (now owned by Federal Express) after he made a major financial gift the College.
